What should we do in 2021?

We're planning People Powered's goals and budget for 2021, and we'd like you to help decide what we do, together. Through a participatory planning process, we’re inviting participatory democracy organizations and advocates around the world to decide our 2021 goals, spending, and revenue priorities. We’re committing at least $50,000 to fund the prioritized projects (see last year's winning projects here).

First, we want your ideas for what we should do. Please complete the form below by November 9th to share your ideas.

Then, our member organizations, boards, and staff will turn the ideas into a shortlist of proposals, and vote to decide which proposals we implement for 2021. A Planning Committee consisting of member organizations and board members is overseeing the process - read more here.

What have we done in 2020?

Resources

Launched an online resource center of the best practical materials on participatory democracy
Developed & shared two resources on inclusion of marginalized communities in PB
Started to develop two resources on PB for climate change (coming in December)

Capacity-Building

Launched the Rising Stars Mentorship Program
Launched People Powered University online courses
Organized trainings on digital participation tools and youth PB

Advocacy

Advised three global institutions on how to improve their support for participatory democracy
Started a collaborative campaign for youth participation and civic space in Kenya
Developed & shared a Global PB Research Agenda, to focus global research

Communications

Created organizational branding, website, and social media
Grew mailing list by 140%

Management & Governance

Formed a Board of Directors
Incorporated as a nonprofit organization
Established an organizational membership program, with over 40 members

Fundraising

Raised $150,000 in new funding for member organizations

Submit Your Ideas for 2021

What should we do in 2021? How should we expand people’s power to make government decisions? How should we support organizations and governments that are building participatory democracy around the world?

Please share your ideas for our 2021 goals (what should we aim to accomplish), spending (how we should spend our budget), and revenue (how we should raise additional funds). Be as specific as possible.

Proposals will be eligible if they meet the following criteria:

Something that we can realistically complete by the end of 2021
Relevant and applicable globally, not just in one country or region
Consistent with People Powered’s mission and values

GOALS: What should we aim to accomplish in 2021?

Example: Expand the Rising Stars mentorship program to other kinds of participatory democracy, beyond PB.

SPENDING: What should we allocate money to, in order to achieve our goals?

Example: Hire translators to translate the best resources in the resource center into additional languages.

REVENUE: How should we raise additional funds?

Example: Run a crowdfunding campaign with member organizations.
